Note: you do NOT require an account to search for library material.
To start, click on the "Online Catalog" link above. This will open a new window.
Next, click on the "Create Account" button in the upper right corner of the screen. (Depending on which browser you are using, you may first have to click on the "Hyrum Library" link in the center of the screen.)
Enter your last name and barcode. You will only need the numbers on the back of your card, do not enter the letter P.
Enter a user name and a password. You will use these to log on. You are not required to enter an e-mail address, however, it is the easiest way to recover a lost password. Press "Save" when finished.
You should now be logged in. To view your checked out items and holds, click on "My Info."
To place a book on hold, you must first locate it in the "Catalog" section. (Be sure to click on the correct button when searching. Hitting Enter will automatically bring up Keyword results.) Once the book is located, click on the "Hold It" button located to the right of the description. This will place the book on hold.
IMPORTANT: There is a limit of 5 holds per account. If the requested book is currently checked in, we will pull it off the shelf daily before noon. If a hold is placed after this time, the book will be pulled on the next business day unless another Patron checks it out. The book will then be held when it is returned. Books are not pulled on Saturdays.
To log out, click the "Logout" button in the upper right corner of the screen. You will be automatically logged out after 10 minutes of inactivity or if you close your browser.
To log back in, select "Log In" instead of "Create Account" and enter your username and password.
If you forget your username or need to reset your password, and you did not provide an e-mail address, you must provide your Library Card at the front desk. We will not give out usernames or passwords by phone or by e-mail.
To recommend a title to another Patron, you must first log in to your online account and look up the specific book and/or other material.
Once the material has been located, click on the "Recommend Title" button to the right of the title.
You must then locate a specific Patron by typing in their last name. Note that only Patrons with an online account will be able to receive recommendations.
Once you have clicked on the name of the Patron, you may type a brief comment, then press the "Save" button. The recommendation will then be sent.
To view titles Recommended to you, click on the "My Info" tab and scroll down until you reach the "Recommended Titles" section.
If you no longer require a Recommendation, click on the "Delete" button.
To rate a book and/or other Library material, you must first log in to your online account and locate the material in the Catalog.
Once the material is located, click on the "Reviews" tab next to the "Title Details" tab.
Under this tab, you may view any reviews and ratings already given to a particular title, or may submit your own review by clicking on the "Add Review" button.
Once you click on the "Add Review" button, you must first give the material a star rating. You are not required to write a review, but we strongly urge you to do so for the benefit of other Patrons.
Once you have finished writing your review, click on the "Save" button. The review will then submitted to the Library staff for approval.
Guidelines and policies for writing a review are as follows:
Foul language, racial slurs, and sexual remarks will NOT be tolerated.
Please be courteous when writing a review. Reviews written in a hateful or defamatory manner will not be approved.
Please keep your review within a reasonable size. Reviews considered unnecessarily long may be edited.
Note that the Library Staff reserves the right to edit and/or remove any review without warning.
Please note that all reviews are anonymous. No personal information is sent when a review is submitted for approval and no personal information is given if the review is posted in the Catalog.
This system is still in a testing stage and these policies are subject to change.

(Note: These tips are good for the Library catalog computers and the Online Catalog located above.)
You can do a basic search by Keyword, Title, Author, Subject, or Series. Just type your search term and then click
on the appropriate button. For example, if you wanted to find books by Dan Brown you would type Brown and then
click on the Author button.
You can create a search string (search for more than one search term) using the Boolean operators AND, OR, and NOT. They must by typed in uppercase letters. For example, cats AND dogs will find all the records with both cats and dogs included.
You must put quotations around a phrase, or it searches for each word individually.
Searches are not case sensitive, so if you use lowercase or uppercase letters, you still get the same results.
The system ignores punctuation, so don’t use dashes, double-dashes, hyphens, or slashes, but type the word as one word. For example, Cast-away would be castaway.
In addition, you can use wildcard symbols in a search. An asterisk * can replace any number of letters at the end of a word. Example: If you enter teach*, the system finds "teach", "teacher", "teaches", and "teaching".
A question mark (?) can by used in the middle of a word to replace a single letter, or two question marks can be used to
replace two letters (as long as it’s not the first letter), etc. Example: A search on wom?n finds both "woman" and
"women".
In Basic and Power searches, the catalog ignores certain words, called stop words, so do not use these words. They include the following: a, and, are, at be, but, by for if, in, into, is, it no, not of, on, or s, such t, that, the, their, then, there, these, they, this, to was, will, with
